Le séminaire des Aspects Concrets de la Thèse s’est terminé cette année sur une séance dédiée au post-doctorat (le 4 juin). Tout un symbole que d’arriver au terme de cette programmation avec la perspective de l’après-thèse ! Intitulée « Le post-doc, tremplin ou salle d’attente ? », cette séance réunissait trois invités : Laurent Berger (docteur en anthropologie, chargé de la recherche au musée du Quai Branly et chercheur affilié au LAS), Jean-Tristan Brandenburg (docteur en biologie, CDD recherche INSERM/Paris 7 et membre de plusieurs associations de jeunes chercheurs) et Martin Préaud (docteur en anthropologie, membre de l’équipe “anthropologie de la perception” du LAS et terminant tout juste un post-doc au sein de l’équipe SOGIP à l’EHESS).

We also highlighted some of the schemes put in place in recent years to help postdocs pursue an independent research project or even set up their own small research groups.

Perhaps the most vexing challenge facing early-career scientists is how to demonstrate independence while working for someone else. And doing so is crucial. These days, an increasing number of institutions require compelling evidence that you’re ready to function as an independent scientist before they’re willing to hire you even for an entry-level faculty position. So how do you prepare for that transition? How do you demonstrate independence while still a postdoc?
